Yes, there is a big difference!
Flower Essences are often confused with Homeopathy, Herbalism and Aromatherapy, in fact although they all use plants, they are completely different, in both the way they are prepared and in the way they heal.
Homeopathic remedies are prepared in a similar way to flower essences using animal, mineral and plant bases imprinted on a solution in various dilutions or potentised ratios. The premise is to treat like with like, matching the symptoms of the problem to the actions of the remedy. Remedies tend to be prescribed for specific physical problems, although emotional and mental states are considered. Homeopathic remedies are not self-adjusting, they can have side effects and result in severe aggravations. They are also easily antedoted by contact with strongly aromatic substances like perfume, toothepaste, garlic, coffee and essential oils, also electronic emissions such as from x-rays, computers and mobile phones.
Herbal extracts and tinctures are made by macerating parts of plants and trees in alcohol for a time before straining and bottling. They are usually recommended for specific ailments and work only on the physical body, their chemical constituents can be analyzed and measured and herbal extracts often heal by altering the chemical processes that take part in the cells of the body. Many of our modern medicines are synthetic versions of extracts from plants.
Essential Oils are also extracted from plant and tree material and work via the olfactory sense, they are less specific in addressing emotional imbalances. They can be chemically analysed and can also heal by altering chemical processes in the cells of the body.
It’s also worth mentioning that flower essences do not use parts of the plant, the plant is not harvested or disturbed, just a few flower blooms are taken to make the mother tincture. The mother tincture is then diluted down to stock strength and from stock strength treatment bottles are made up individually.
